there isn't one answer -- the same way there isn't one interpretation of bible passages, there isn't one color of the sky, there isn't one word to describe how simon feels towards kieren. there's many, thousands of reasons why he didn't -- there's kieren, and there's the fact that simon would never be responsible for blowing out the candle on something so pure, something so beautiful. there's the fact that he's cowardly, that he can't do the one thing that needs to be done in order to assure the second rising of undead worldwide. there's the fact that he's in love, that the one person apart from the prophet who gives him joy is kieren, and he was made to choose between the two of them -- he made he choice, and he continues to do so, it's kieren, kieren, kieren, and it's never anyone else. it's kieren, and his beautiful heart that doesn't beat, a heart that simon adores, a heart simon has given his own up to, from the sheer capacity of emotion he feels towards it, that he wasn't so sure he could feel anymore.
