( aand he's at jem's door in about five or so minutes. he's even bearing a packet of nice biscuits, because kieren understands the need for comfort food even if he doesn't eat.

[she isn't expecting him over; or at least, she isn't expecting him so soon. maybe she should have. they're similar, in this aspect. but Kieren's always been the more impulsive of the two. so, she opens the door with her hair tied back and with a cup of tea in hand, chewing away at what she thinks might have been left over pizza.

she stills, surprise evident on her face before it softens and she steps back to let him in. ]

Wasn't expecting you to come over.

Yeah, well. I found these biscuits and I thought you might like them.

( it's such a flimsy pretense and they both know it. kieren just wants an excuse to be there for his younger sister - because jem will always be his younger sister in his mind. But he knows that she's not good at the mushy stuff. They communicate in snarky rejoinders and soft shoulder punches. but they'll always have each other's back.

kieren would have been here no matter what, rain or shine. )

[she appreciates it immensely, that he gets her. that he understands she's not good at this even though she's been trying. she does. when he's inside, she shuts the door and awkwardly gestures with both arms to the living room. ]
