[It's the first thing he thinks to do, the second he steps through into this world, still wearing the suit he had on before, a bag slung over his shoulder. He's standing in the city centre, and it takes him all of five seconds to take the iPhone-ish device and use it to call Kieren Walker.
When he gets the answering message, he lets out a breath he doesn't need to before speaking:] Hey, Kieren, it's Simon. They told me you were here, you and your sister. [He knows Kieren's been here a while, and, considering the nature of this place, he may have met someone else. Which, alright, so long as he's happy, but still...]
( there's a clatter on the other end because kieren's just dropped the paintbrush he was holding in surprise, and a muffled shit as he tosses it to the side so he can pay full attention to his phone.
because it's simon on the other line and kieren hadn't thought he'd be talking to him again. not after the city already sent him home. and with the way they had left their relationship off last time, there's definitely a twist of guilt in his stomach as he responds. )
I did? I don't remember. [Yeah he was not expecting this... Would've been nice if they'd given him some warning.
He looks around.] Think I'm in the downtown? There's cafes and some small stores, the streets are cobbled. [He makes a mental note to come back here and explore later.]
Okay. [He does indeed, and not sure how long it'll be, he goes and sits down on the nearest bench, holding his bag in his lap. There's a nervous excitement about him now.]
I can't wait to see you. [He pauses, then adds:] Have you been happy here? They said you been in the city for a while.
I should probably tell you this before I see you, so it's less of a surprise. I'm...well. My heart started beating last month. I came back to life, somehow.
[There's some silence on the other end as he processes this, and it's with some shock, honestly. He does still remember what happened to Amy, her mysterious return to life before she died.
Finally, he says, softly.] That's-- Well, I'm glad, if you're happy about it. [He means it, too. Whatever makes him happy, really, it doesn't change what Simon feels about him.] Maybe it was this place, maybe they did something to you. [Having cold skin was no conducive to cuddles, after all.
God he hopes they don't do the same to him, if it was even them.] Or maybe it's because you're special. [Even if he wasn't the first risen, and Simon is now unsure of that considering what happened to Amy and why she was killed, but Kieren Walker is still special as far as he's concerned.]
Well, you are to me. [So there :P And he does hear the footsteps, yes, it has him looking around.
Not remembering to eat... He's forgotten what that's like, but he does have some experience with it, so he can sort of imagine.] I'll make sure you remember then, wouldn't do you any good to get sick. [A pause.] How far away are you?
